FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is a crime prevention and improvement district?

The Fairwood Crime Prevention and Improvement District (Fairwood CPID) was formed because of Louisiana Legislative Act 329 in 2019. It passed with 70% voting yes in an election by voters living in the district. One purpose of the district is to aid in crime prevention by having license plate reading cameras installed and additional security patrols. Another important purpose of the district is beautification which includes grass cutting of common areas.

Why did residents want the Fairwood CPID to be established?

Homeowner’s Associations were struggling to collect voluntary dues. The lack of available money made it extremely difficult to keep up common areas for grass cutting. Residents also wanted cameras installed and security patrols so we could keep our neighborhoods safer. Creating the Fairwood CPID would make the fees required for 100% of the property owners in the district.

What subdivisions are included in the Fairwood CPID?

Fairwood Estates, Country Ridge, and Sherwood Manor.

How much does it cost?

Fees were initially set at $40 which is paid with your property taxes. Board Commissioners are allowed to raise the fees by 10% yearly not to exceed $100 for residential parcels.

Are Board Commissioners paid for their services?

No, we are uncompensated volunteers.

Can I attend Board meetings?

Yes, all meetings are open to the public. We encourage attendance and public comment.

How can I get involved?

Please contact FairwoodCPID@yahoo.com and we can discuss how you can help.

Can I make an additional donation to the Fairwood CPID?

Yes, the district may accept additional donations.
